It goes like this - breakfast, lunch, dinner, supper. that's so weird. I think most countries just have breakfast, lunch, and dinner/supper in the evening. And tea time sometimes.

It goes like this - breakfast, lunch, dinner, supper. I can't imagine a fourth meal in the day. Americans already eat too much and that would add to it I fear.

| Gonna catch up a bit on this thread tomorrow now that i have time! Long time no see. I'm back in Oz btw Dear US, your Cheesecake Factory menu/portion sizes should be illegal... and it's your fault my pants are tighter Can i just have a bitch about someone? My cousin intentionally searched for me on twitter, and actually managed to find me (fuck knows how!), and read all my tweets (which is super embarrassing if you're not part of the fandom)...... Just fucking respect my privacy. Don't go searching for my shit. JFC! I hate people sometimes. First thing i did when i got home was download Glee. Like, the very first thing LOL. Sad. | |

Aside from children, I don't know that many that actually eat breakfast though. Breakfast is most often just coffee I need a few hours after I wake up before I can eat, or I'll feel sick. So when I'm a real active member of society, I never eat before lunch. With all the free time I'm having now, I basically eat whenever I'm hungry. But I don't think 4 meals a day is that much. Of course it depends on just how much you eat for one meal though. I don't really know the eating habits of Americans, if we look beyond McDonalds and those people that can pass for mountains It is recommended to eat often, but small portions, though. For the motabolism and all.

| American's in general have portion control problems. Several small meals are a good idea but I know very few people who actually do it. Myself included on that. I was taught to eat whatever was sat infront of me. It is a hard habit to break. | |

| Food's weird, I was raised (and taught by our government health people) that the three-meal day was extremely unhealthy for you. I don't eat meals, I just kind of snack through the course of a day; bagel around 7ish, then something small like a PB&J sandwich for 10-11ish, maybe one or two potatoes worth of fries for lunch at 2-3, a small chunk of meat for "dinner" at 5-7ish, and then something like some toast before bed.
There's a bunch of stuff pointing towards the snacking method being healthier for you mostly because you digest and burn it off quicker with less to digest at any one time.

| Here it's completely different. I've been taught that breackfast is the most important meal of the day becuase it gives you the energy for the rest of it. Lunch is usually pasta, then dinner which is a bit lighter because you have to sleep after. Try to tell someone to skip lunch and they'll look at you like you've grown another head. | |

Yeah, I can't exactly include myself in it either with the eating habits I have as of today. I can quickly forget to eat all day, and then make up for it at night, which isn't good at all, and has led to quite some weight gain. Oh well.. - Mike` wrote:

We're taught that as well. But I personally don't know many, or any people who actually eat first thing when they wake up. Bad habit of skipping it.

| oh I love this food discussion... I don't know, I'm definitely not speaking for the "general german", but I don't really eat breakfast (I'm not really that hungry before school) but eat like a sandwich at each break in school (so at about 10am and 12am).
When I come home I mostly wait until my parents come home from work and then we eat sth. (about 5pm) and when I'm still hungry in the evening I'd eat a little snack around 9pm I guess.
But I'm a really late eater. I think normally you have lunch ( the only warm meal you have here ) at about 2pm I think.

Same here. Breakfast in the morning. Lunch. Sometimes a 5 o'clock tea (for some people it's a must) and then dinner. And most of our meals include meat.
