But in general Disney was going downhill

Such a sad thing. I miss traditionally animated movies tremendously.
There's something about the hand-drawn look that can't be captured by cgi.

Dreamworks for instance did a stellar job with The Prince of Egypt in the late nineties but then they also jumped on the cgi bandwagon.

Please tell me you've seen The Prince of Egypt. tongue

Don't get me wrong. I like cgi movies. Most of the Pixar-movies are stellar and I also can appreciate some stuff from other studios. (like 'Despicable Me' for instance)
I just think cgi shouldn't be a reason to quit with traditional animation completely. Although I realise it's a money-thing.

Of course I did watch that! to be honest... the animation was great, but it felt a bit too.. cold, maybe. It lacked the heart of Disney movies.

Um, I love CGI, but I get what you're saying. I don't think it should matter. What matters in a movie is the writing IMO, and then of course the animation can be excellent both ways. But doing a movie in CGI only because it's going to sell more it's just as wrong as those people who refused to do CGI in the first place beacuse they were afraid of changing.

LOL I know I don't make any sense.

That was a favorite movie of mine when it came out. I watched it so many times that I still remember the whole song that the mother sings when she sends Moses on the river. I loved that song! Still think it's beautiful.

My son, I have nothing I can give, but this chance that you may live. I pray we'll meet again. If he will deliver uuuuuuus...... Heart 02

And! I actually recently bought it. There was a lady on facebook selling hers, so I bought it from her. Have still to re-watch it though.

You make sense. smile
I just notice the writing is lacking in a lot of non-Pixar cgi movies.
Most of the times it's just a bunch of loud screaming characters trying to be funny. (eg. Madagascar)
Where is the poetry of something like The Lion King?

That movie had some intense and haunting moments.

I have to wait another two years until Peter Pan or 101 Dalmatians are available again.

And then there is The Great Mouse Detective.
I always wondered... is this song about what I think it is?

Oh my!

I was going to bring that movie to work on Friday so the kids could watch it, but now I'm not sure that's a good idea. It's rated G, but the rules about what's "inappropriate" for kids are really stupid these days.

Well, I borrowed that movie from the library, so I'll watch it just for myself. It's one of my favorite Disney movies.

This was also such a song that had some mature undertones.

Same goes for The Three Caballeros and Fantasia.
And also that dream sequence in Winnie The Pooh.

So I wonder... look at Tangled and then look at Brave...
Is the line between standard Disney and Pixar fading?

Haven't seen Brave either, but it could as well be part of Disney's Princess line.

You know what's beautiful on bluray, Eli?
Those older handdrawn movies. Alice in Wonderland, Snow White, Lady and the Tramp... they are all so magnificent on bluray and when you pause the screen you can see all those beautiful pencil lines in the background as if you're looking at a painting. It's touching in a way, to see it in such detail after all those years.

I'm reading a lot of articles accusing Merida of being a lesbian because gasp! she's 15 and she wants to go on adventures instead of marrying a prince! Laughing
I mean, a story that doesn't involve around a girl finding her soulmate? bring it! I hope it's going to be a revival of the disney princess archetype WITHOUT all the annoying and unrealsting romantic stuff in the way.

Haha, the way people associate...

You know what you can do to get those blurays cheaper, Eli?
Well, this is how I do it. I buy the bluray version of a Disney animated movie I already have.
That version always contains an extra dvd version.
So now I have a bluray version and two dvd versions. (the added one and the one I already had)
So I sell both of those dvd versions for a cheap price and I win back money I spent on the expensive bluray version. smile

Watch this excellent 5 minute animated short. It's from someone who works/worked for Pixar.
