LA Noir really is like playing a movie. I was about the game on wikipedia, and I think it said it was the only video ever to be shown at the Tribeca film festival. It's really cool investigating cases, but once I solve them all I don't see much replay value in it. They should make a sequal to it (they probably already are)

The main character was modeled after and voiced by an actor from Mad Men, right?

Silent Hill. I was meaning to play that again!

Silent Hill 2 is still the most fascinating. So much psychological subtext.
And the reveal at the end is one of the most shocking I ever experienced in a videogame.

Yeah, I think it was you who were trying to get me to play that one? I have bought most the Silent Hill games, but have only played SH3. Nerves. Feeling the urge to give it a try today though smile

Sure! I definitely somehow feel safer being a man in this game, than the young girl in SH3 Laughing

Trying to get used to the moving around in this game. It's been so long since I played SH3, or playstation in general. Only played Xbox the last few years, and the controlling of the person is much easier there than here I feel.

I believe you can adjust/alter the controlling in the options.

I'm figuring it out. Forward is forward no matter the angle of the camera. It had me running around in circles a bit, but now I think I have the hang of it smile

What did you think of that voice-over intro?
The game can be strangely poetic despite all its gore and horror.

In my restless dreams i see that town. Silent Hill.
You promised you'd take me there again some day, but you never did.
Well, I'm alone there now in our special place...

It was haunting and beautiful really! And just like SH3, it's sometimes like watching a movie with the flash scenes smile

I'm scared to go on now though. I still haven't found a weapon, but I found a first aid kit, and I just know that means I'm heading straight for something

The psychological factor is what makes these games so great.
You can see the town of Silent Hill as a metaphor for the personal traumas and inner turmoils of the protagonist. In that opening monologue there's all that recalling of happier times in a relationship, but like those kinds of memories are sugary saturated, so are the memories regarding the town. In those few lines the peacefulness and beauty of that town is implied, but the image of the town created by the game is never the wholesome environment of those memories. As in a way how we can see events in our own pasts with rose-tinted glasses, while subconsciously denying the actual reality of those memories.

Phew... maybe I read too much into it all. tongue

I like how you think! Makes perfect sense. I wouldn't have thought of it like that myself.

The background noises and the misty environment don't help. Wink
I remember playing that game with headphones at night while being alone in the apartment.

Doesn't help at all! Found my first non-human and got a stick to beat him with now though *phew*

You really must have nerves of steel playing at night with headphones on!!

In the end I started to imagine hearing and seeing things. tailspin
I did that also with Resident Evil, but the Silent Hill-games definitely had a bigger impact.
Those games crawl under your skin.

Anyway, I'm gonna eat some Subway right now, but I'm back in an hour, who knows where you'll be by then in that town called Silent Hill...

I'm running around in an apartment building right now. Took me some time to figure out where I was going, so for a long while I was just running around in the streets killing these whatever they are... Now it seems I need to find something heavy to throw down the trash thingy to get what is stuck in there smile

What kind of parameters have you chosen for difficulty at the beginning of the game?

That's good. The Silent Hill riddles can be extremely cryptic on the hardest level.
Also, the level of difficulty doesn't change the story, yet there are some decisions you have to make in the game that will affect the outcome. (there are 4 or 5 different endings I believe)

Oooh, I love it when a game does that!

But talking about riddles, I'm moments away from having to pull up a walkthrough, because I am stuck and can't get anywhere right now. I'm locked out of all the areas I need to get to it seems. Gonna try go outside and see if I can find a second entrance first though.

Just search and you'll find the solution. Sometimes it can be a bit frustrating when you don't find the right way to go immediately but it is bery rewarding when you actually do after some searching. Look around with your lamp if you don't notice anything that can help you further or check all the doors again. I sometimes forget to check out a room in those apartments in the game, and most of the times the solution to move further was actually in the room I forgot to go into.
