| I love Klimt. I used to have that one, "the kiss" in my old bedroom. | |

| What fascinates me is that girl in the right corner. More trains. | |

| Last year I went to Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid and I was completely overwhelmed by the Guernica. I was expecting something amazing and it was much more than I could have ever imagined. I had tears in my eyes, which is something that never happened to me in terms of paintings. It was probably the high point of my trip to Spain. | |

Wow, that is intense. I think it's touching when people have that kind of transcending experience through art. See also that museum-scene in the Ferris Bueller-movie. | |

| Yeah, it was intense. I think it was a combination of being able to appreciate such an important piece of art, being able to go there and see this with my eyes, and how amazing the painting is. It’s so huge and full of details. I think Guernica captures what art really is: the capacity the human being has of perceive reality and change it, discuss it and move forward, or at least try doing that. I saw humankind in front of my eyes: tragedy, awful tragedy and death and misunderstanding and prejudice, and then the possibility of making art from it and build a better world. It is a painting about awful things, but making art from it makes me hopeful. If we can’t discuss awful things then we are bound to repeat them. Does that make sense? Nice thread, btw. | |

| ^^ That's a great way to phrase it. My earliest experience of being mesmerized by a painting must have been when I was ten. I saw 'Landscape with the Fall of Icarus' and I was shocked that the actual event was just a footnote in the painting. People look at the painting and the first thing they see is the farmer with his horse unaware of what just happened, just busy in his own little world. Only by looking at the painting more thoroughly you'll notice those two moving legs, the only part visible of a human fighting for his life. And then you still have to discover that little mysterious island with its cave, the dreamlike mountains in the horizon and so many other little details. It's like a whole universe that opens in front of your eyes and that invites you to explore it with your own imagination. During this period I also experienced dreams in which there were paintings that I could step into. | |

| Didn't know him, but wow... very impressionistic. Here's another one of him I found. Really powerful. It feels as if you are sucked into the painting. | |
