PostSubject: The Comicbook/Manga thread   Tue Feb 07, 2012 10:37 am

(moved from the book thread)

This isn't exactly a book, but a manga. It's called "Honey and Clover" (hachimitsu to kuroobaa), written and illustrated by Chika Umino, and it's literally the best manga I've ever read in my entire life.

It's the story of a group of boys and girls attending art college in Tokyo, and it's incredibly sweet, hilarious, malinconic, and tragic. I'd say the best word to describe it is bittersweet.
It will make you laugh your ass off with the most brilliant characters and situations, and then hit you in the guts with so much emotions you can't stand it.
My favorite part is the one where Takemoto, a boy with no particular talent and no clue about what to do with his life, one day just takes his bike and starts pedaling, and he doesn't stop until the very end of Japan. An epic journey, the lack of food, trains to follow in the night, butt pain, tunnels, nice people and not so nice people.

In the end it's not even a comicbook anymore, just words and words and pics of a wheel, a flower, a dead bird on the street. And at this point I always end up crying in a corner because of all the feels. sad little panda

I realize it's not easy to buy a 10 volumes comicbook like that, but if you'll ever feel the urge to read a manga, this is the one you want.

(eta: or you can read it online Wink )

I've heard about it but never read it.

LOL on tv they were talking about Lucca Comics, which is basically our Comic-con (also in a city really near mine, yay) and interviewing cosplayers. They stopped these two girls dressed as Uranus and Neptune, and they talked merrily about choosing their costumes together, sewing together, travelling together, cosplaying together.
My dad went on a rant about how it's wrong for grown ups to dress up like cartoons instead of finding a normal job, and I kept nodding and thinking

Hold up, Uranus and Neptune are GAY?!?! omg....My television in America told me they were cousins.... I've been lied too.

How did they get away with this hand holding on tv back then?

One of my friends loves manga so from her I've read like the first 5 volumes of Tsubasa and xxxHolic. Also Chobits smile

Calvin and Hobbes is awesome. My room mates have a big book of Calvin and Hobbes here at the house.

Does anybody read any online comics? I've been following this one for a few years now:
